Is she a siren or a myth?
Plot
Partenope is a woman named after her city. In Greek myth, Parthenope is the siren who committed suicide after failing to enchant Odysseus.
In the film, Parthenope is the embodiment of the city of Naples
Her body was washed ashore by the tide to where the Castel dell’Ovo now stands, and for this she gave her name to the city that would later become Neapolis, Naples. WarmthWritten by Peter GregsonPlayed by Peter Gregson, Warren Zielinski, Magdalena Filipczak, Laurie Anderson, Ashok Klouda.
A seductive package
Ribbons galore. Open it up and there’s nothing inside.
Except for a few tired old rags of Fellini memorabilia
In Amarcord, 8 e mezzo, La Dolce Vita, to name just three of his best films, the master created a jumble of structureless images and turned them into a series of cinematic masterpieces, but he was able to do so because his images were authentic to begin with – they were real images, real scenes, real events, etched into his brain by the real processes of pain and sorrow, amusement, melancholy and joy and whatnot: the whole range of human emotions. Sorrentino seems to think that this is an easy trick that he can copy and get the same results.
There are no shortcuts
But art doesn’t work like that. In future, I will follow the advice of another contributor here and leave this director out.
