I read the original novel many times when I was a teenager, decades ago
Mentioned in Korman Productions Deep Dive TV Podcast: Earth Goes On on MGM+ Deep Dive Episode 1 “Alone” with Dave and Stacie (2024). It’s a great story with lots of effective imagery, highly recommended, if a bit dated — published in 1949, seventy-five years ago. Although I often wondered over the years if a movie would ever be made, I didn’t expect this limited series adaptation to appear, so I was very surprised when it did.

Also very concerned, because it remains one of my all-time favorite reads. “People come and go, but the earth goes on” is a quote I often repeat. I watched the first episode with some trepidation.

That was really good!” The sight of Ish staring into the smoke from Em’s house brought the book’s imagery to life. Of course, it’s been modernized in many ways out of necessity, but the important aspects of the plot remain largely unchanged. Other changes, like limiting Ish’s trip to just Las Vegas instead of Atlantic City, make sense and aren’t central to the character interactions.
