Plot
A serious theater director is tasked with reviving her former mentor’s most famous work, the opera Salome. Some disturbing memories from her past cause her repressed trauma to color the present. This is the second time Amanda Seyfried has starred in an Atom Egoyan film since Chloe (2009). Quoted in Amanda the Jedi Show: I ALMOST Walked Out | The Best and Worst of TIFF 2023 (2023). Tells an incredible story that combines beautiful scenes and a rich score through a seemingly typically Egoyan disjointed narrative. Egoyan’s genius lies in his ability to portray the brutality of human experience with tenderness and compassion. This film rivals the best of Hollywood films and is even better for its intelligence and the timeliness of its message. Amanda Steyfried’s lead performance as Jeanine is absolutely perfect, as is a top-notch cast that is sure to satisfy audiences. I was able to enjoy this film before its release and it was truly a treat.
